St. Mary's Bluecoat CE Primary School

"Working together for success"

The Hub

As Church of England Schools, our school strives to develop the whole child, going that extra mile for our pupils and their parents to ensure we do our very best to meet all pupils’ needs.

Nurture is a central part of our work for all children at St. Mary’s Bluecoat. There is a palpable team spirit and ‘can do’ attitude among staff within the school as we strive to achieve the very best outcomes for all children.

The SEND hub on the school site embodies the inclusive ethos of the school.

‘Leaders are ambitious for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Staff are particularly expert in helping these pupils. They think carefully about pupils’ needs and make adaptions to ensure that all pupils access a broad curriculum’. Ofsted inspection of St. Mary’s Bluecoat CE Primary School, December 2021

Our Hub is a provision for children with a range of complex needs and a specific aim to support those children who present with a broad variety of Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (including Autistic Spectrum Conditions) identified as their primary need in their EHCP.

Children attending the hub receive specific teaching through a flexible, formal curriculum which is carefully designed to meet their needs whilst also accessing some learning with their mainstream peers (as appropriate) and participating in the inclusive school community at every possible opportunity.

Places in the SEND Hub at St Mary's Bluecoat CofE (VA) Primary School are allocated by Shropshire Council for children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Admission is managed in partnership through consultation between the SEND team, school, and school admissions, not just through the standard school application process. Parents of children with an EHCP should contact the Shropshire SEND Team for further information.

‘Support for learners with behavioural, emotional and or educational needs is seen as of paramount importance, with specialist staff and targeted interventions all being harnessed in support of the individual. The genuine care and support offered by the school is appreciated greatly by its families. As one parent expressed it, ‘I can’t get over how well my child is looked after’. SIAMS report November 2017
